Save Room for Tiramisu at Maialino Mare in DC

The Roman-style trattoria Maialino Mare showcases seafood pastas and fish.  Inspired by its “coastal sister,” New York City’s Maialino, the restaurant is just near Nationals Park in the Navy Yard. Maialino Mare is unique in that it operates on a revenue share system, in which the staff across the board receives a bit more from sales without the need for tips to make a living wage–or the gap in earnings that can occur between the front of house and back of house staff in a restaurant. As such, the trattoria is a non-tipping destination.

This equity is especially deserved given Maialino Mare’s winning team: Executive Chef Rose Noel, General Manager Morgan Dillon, Beverage Director David Metz, and Executive Pastry Chef Saber Rejbi. The restaurant has an extensive group of menus, including a coffee bar, breakfast, brunch, lunch, cicchetti, dinner, dessert, and beverages. These feature plenty of items, but some favorites include torta della nonna, zucca, and cacio e pepe. Their menu showcases local sources and ingredients, highlighting seasonal, high-quality foods and drinks.
